Sometimes it is formed by a hormonal alteration, other times by a wrong or lack of cleansing. The fact is that the black spot it can appear on our face quite easily. And the desire to remove it as soon as possible is urgent for all. Especially if it abounds in the T zone: “Blackheads are formed due to the secretion of sebum by the sebaceous glands that accumulates in the hair follicles (the so-called pores) and their dark complexion is given by oxidation after exposure to air – explains the Dr. Annamaria Peluso, specialist in Dermatology at the Villalba clinic in Bologna. To eliminate it it is possible to resort to aesthetic patches, also called strip, which is known, they do not work miracles, but in an emergency they can quickly clean up the pore. With Daniela Del Latteowner of Beyond the Growing Wellness Aesthetics of Milan we tried to understand what is the correct way to use them and what kind of cleaning they guarantee.
What do these patches actually eliminate?
“These patches contain a substance that in contact with water acts like a glue which, when drying, adheres to the open blackhead and, once removed, brings with it dead cells and surface impurities. Formulas usually contain astringent ingredients such as cucumber and green tea. These products, therefore, remove a minimum part of dead cells, sebum and impurities placed on the surface in an aggressive manner, but do not act in depth ».
Are they bad or not?
«The thinner the skin, the more it is possible for the patches to hurt, because they can vasodilate the capillaries of the face, making the skin more sensitive. On skin with couperose or inflamed acne they can worsen the state of sensitivity and inflammation. And then it must be said that the black point is sebum which, in contact with the air, oxidizes: a patch is not enough to be eliminatedbut professional acid-based products are needed that are able to penetrate deeply and “clean” the skin of excess sebum ».
How to best use them?
«I suggest using them only once a month, only if the skin is free from acne, dermatitis, abrasions and irritations; in combination with careful and regular skin care, the patch can undoubtedly be useful in limiting the problem. Depending on the brand, the patch changes the minutes of laying and the type of application: you have to be careful to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Ingredients to avoid: silicones, parabens, PEGs and “red dot” filming agents ».
Other effective methods against blackheads?
«To have a real cleansing of the skin it is necessary to schedule a consultation with the professional beautician who, based on the type of skin, recommends the most suitable detoxifying treatment based on specific acids. As a daily beauty routine to do at home you need to start using a natural cleansing product with acids such as mandelic and salicylic, useful for removing dead cells and blackheads ».
