Blackout hits the center of SP and affects Santa Casa operations

The central region of São Paulo was hit this Monday morning (18) by a blackout. The interruption in the electricity supply affected the operation of the Santa Isabel hospital and Santa Casa.

The blackout began around 10 am and affected several neighborhoods in the central region, such as Bela Vista, Santa Cecília, Liberdade, Higienópolis, Vila Buarque and Consolação.

Santa Casa reported that the power cut meant that outpatient care and exams had to be postponed. Generators are ensuring the operation of hospitalization and emergency areas.

Wanted by CNN the concessionaire Enel stated that “an occurrence in the underground network that serves the Higienópolis region, in the capital of São Paulo, caused an interruption in the energy supply at the location”.

“Distributor teams are working to identify the cause and carry out repairs. Enel adds that it is mobilizing generators to supply a hospital and other priority customers in the region”, says the company.

At Santa Isabel hospital, Rede D'Or, responsible for managing the establishment, stated that there was an interruption in the electricity supply at around 10 am. “Promptly, according to the contingency protocol, the generator was activated, without any interruption in emergency services. The Enel concessionaire gave a return forecast by 4pm”, says the company.

Over the weekend, supply was also affected around Rua 25 de Março, an area well known for popular shopping. To minimize the problems, Enel said it “has made available and connected six generators to serve affected customers, while teams work to identify the cause and restore power supply at the site.”

Last Friday (16), a power supply failure affected the control tower at Congonhas airport, which caused the interruption of landings and take-offs between 2:25 pm and 3:51 pm.
