Blanco and Mahmood: The new world is here by Luigi & Iango

A project by exhibition born from an idea of Simone Marchetti with the President of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation, Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo and photographers Luigi & Iango.

On the occasion of the 66th edition of Eurovision Song Contest to Turinthe Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation presents Blanco and Mahmood: the new world is herean exhibition with photographs by photographers and artists Luigi & Iango which portray the two Italian artists competing in the event, Blanco and Mahmood, protagonists of one cover and a reportage of the weekly Vanity Fair Italy.

Curated by Simone Marchetti, European editorial director of Vanity Fairand from Irene Calderoni, curator of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundationthe exhibition is proposed as an innovative, free and fertile ground where art, music, publishing and celebrities meet to experiment new paths, new collaborations and a different future for everyone.

First, the title, The new world is hereis the manifesto of the poetic andaesthetics from Blanco And Mahmoodtwo artists sui generis, far from any scheme, strong in a physicality and a musical sensitivity that break barriers and borders managing to write new meanings not only within the world of music but more generally in that of costumefrom the sexuality and above all ofgender identity.

Portraits by photographers and artists Luigi & Iangogreat and recognized narrators of the culture of celebrities, of international fashion and beauty, in these images Blanco and Mahmood bring together the great tradition of the poses of characters in mosaics from the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta on the island of Torcello, in Venicewith the aesthetics ofNew York aristocracy of the Swans from Truman Capote portraits by Richard Avedon up to the thorniest and dirtiest looks of the underground trends from which the two artists come.

The short circuit that these images want to create is the same one narrated by the music of the two artists, from the pages of the weekly Vanity Fair and from the vocation of the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation: it is the will to write a new chapter of our history, of our culture, of our era. A chapter that still presents itself more free and especially after the pandemic and even more so after the dramatic events of the ongoing war in Ukraine, a conflict that risks further dividing the world causing it to sink into dynamics of power, struggle, violence and regress that have nothing to do with the new world towards which we want to proceed as a country, Italy, and as the European Union.

«The Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation is a free and purposeful place», Says Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, President of the Foundation. «I wanted and thought it important to present in Turin a photographic project that portrays two talents of the new Italian musical generation, in a moment of such great attention to the city. The Foundation has always been attentive to contaminations between art forms. I hope to continue a path of dialogue between different cultural worlds to build together new horizons of meaning ».

“I am extremely happy to actively collaborate with the Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation”, explains Simone Marchetti. “I’ve always thought about Vanity Fair as to a contemporary stage where worlds, cultures and diversities meet to dialogue and to build a better future. This experiment of art, publishing, music And celebrity united in a foundation is just another way of telling the world and thinking about the new role that publishing is carving out for itself within contemporary information and entertainment ».
