THE Ukraine announced it was evacuating “more than 17,000” civilians from flooded areas around the Kahovka dam (south), which was partially destroyed by an explosion that the two camps blamed on each other.
“More than 40,000 people are at risk of being in flooded zones. Ukrainian authorities remove more than 17,000 people. Unfortunately, more than 25,000 civilians are on the ground [που τελεί] under Russian control,” Ukrainian Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said on Twitter.
According to the APE, the occupation authorities installed by Moscow reported for their part that they have started the removal of residents from three areas, notes the AFP.
Meanwhile, the small town of Olesky, on the Russian-controlled south bank of the Dnieper River in Ukraine’s Kherson region, has been almost completely flooded after the breach in the massive Kakhovka dam, a Russian-appointed regional official said.
“Evacuation… is only possible using special equipment”Andriy Aleksejenko, head of the Russian-appointed administration in Ukraine’s Kherson province, said on Telegram, posting videos showing a car stopped with water reaching the level of its windows and a truck passing a highway where the water reaches at least the 30 centimeters.
