Blinken briefed on Ukraine’s plan to pressure Russia to end war

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was briefed last week during a trip to Kiev on Ukraine’s plan to pressure Russia to end the war, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on Tuesday (17).

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky first spoke about his “victory plan” last month, saying he wanted to discuss it with U.S. President Joe Biden. He is expected to present it on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in New York next week, where he is expected to attend.

Earlier on Tuesday, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield said Washington had seen the plan. “We believe it creates a strategy and we believe it can work,” she said.

In a briefing with reporters, the State Department’s Miller said Blinken shares the ambassador’s reading, but declined to elaborate.

“I think I should let President Zelensky, who is the author of the plan, give the details,” Miller said.

Zelensky also said in late August that he would discuss the plan with Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris and likely Republican Donald Trump, the two candidates in the Nov. 5 presidential election.
