Blinken contacts with Kazakh Foreign Minister on emergency situation in Kazakhstan

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke today with Kazakh Foreign Minister Mukhtar Teleuberdi about the ongoing state of emergency in Kazakhstan, the State Department said.

“The Secretary-General reiterated the United States’ full support for Kazakhstan’s constitutional institutions and media freedom, and called for a peaceful resolution of the crisis with respect for human rights,” the State Department said in a statement.

New violence erupts today in Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, after Russian overnight paratroopers deployed to quell the uprising across the country, a former Soviet state closely linked to Moscow.
