Blinken in Berlin for the Ukrainian

Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken has critical contacts in Berlin today over the Ukrainian issue and the threat of a Russian invasion. The focus is on coordinating moves against Moscow.

With the crisis on the Russian-Ukrainian border still at a critical stage and the threat of Russian invasion unabated, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, after Kiev, continues his contacts today in the German capital.

In a statement issued yesterday by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Anthony Blinken warned of a possible increase in Russian troops on the border with Ukraine in the near future and “further aggressive measures” by Russia against Ukraine.

Critical contacts of the West in Berlin

This morning in Berlin, he has had successive contacts with his German counterpart Analena Berbock, who has also recently arrived from Kiev and Moscow, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian and British Deputy Foreign Minister James Kvely. The joint press conference is expected at 2.30 pm German time, and a meeting with Chancellor Olaf Solz is also scheduled.

The focus of the contacts is expected to be the risk assessment on the Russian-Ukrainian border, as well as the coordination of diplomatic and political moves against Russia, which, among other things, asks for written guarantees from NATO for its non-expansion to the East, which of course rejects the Western Alliance.

Blinken-Lavrov on neutral ground

In the afternoon, the US Secretary of State is also expected to speak on German-American relations and current international developments at the Atlantik Brücke Association for American-German Understanding, in collaboration with the German Council, the Aspen Institute and the German Foundation.

However, all eyes are on Anthony Blinken’s next round of contacts on Friday in Geneva, where he is expected to meet with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on Ukraine.
