In accordance with apnews.comthe US Secretary of State stated that “many Palestinians have been killed. Too many have suffered in these last few weeks and we want to do everything possible to protect them and maximize the help they can get.”
He then expressed his appreciation for Israel’s decision to begin implementing daily, four-hour humanitarian pauses in certain areas of northern Gaza to allow Palestinians to evacuate or stock up on food, water, medicine or other essential goods amid the battles.
He also said that the US will continue to discuss specific steps Israel can take to protect civilians in the midst of the conflicts in Gaza, while at the same time working “non-stop” to free the 239 hostages.
Finally, he argued that the US has assembled a set of “basic principles” that will guide the postwar peace effort:
1)No violent displacement of Palestinians from Gaza
2)Not using Gaza as a platform for terrorist attacks against Israel
3)No reduction in Gaza territory and a commitment to Palestinian-led governance for Gaza and the West Bank, in a unified manner
