US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken told the UN Human Rights Council on Tuesday that Russian “crimes” in Ukraine were “intensifying by the hour”, with attacks on hospitals, schools and homes.
Addressing the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Blinken said the urgent discussion of the Ukraine forum scheduled for Thursday, where a resolution passed by Kyiv and its allies would launch an international inquiry into the violations, was a “an important step towards ensuring documentation and accountability”.
“We have to send a strong and unequivocal message that President (Vladimir) Putin must stop it unconditionally,” he said.
Blinken also said China “continues to commit genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang” against Muslim Uighurs and called on UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet to release her office’s report on the findings.
