Blinken: We have not seen any evidence that Russia is withdrawing its forces

Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken said today that Russia was moving critical military units closer to Ukraine’s border, while the United States has not yet seen any withdrawal of Russian forces from the region.

“There is what Russia is saying. And there is what it is doing. And we have not seen any withdrawal of its forces,” Blinken said in an interview with MSNBC.

“We continue to see critical units moving towards the border and not far from the border,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Russia’s Defense Ministry released a video showing tanks and military vehicles leaving the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, which was annexed by Moscow in 2014, after completing military exercises there.

“The units of the Southern Military District, which have completed their participation in regular high schools in test areas of the Crimean peninsula, are being directed by trains back to their permanent bases,” the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the Kremlin announced that it was removing some of its units from the Ukrainian border, boosting hopes for a de-escalation of the crisis.
