Blizzard affects more than 100 million people in the United States

In the United States, a new winter storm put Americans on alert this Wednesday (2); flights were canceled and classes were suspended in schools.

More than 100 million people could be affected by a snowstorm that begins this Wednesday in the country. The storm is expected to hit much of the United States, including southern states, passing through the Midwest and reaching the northern region.

States can receive up to 50 centimeters of snow and ice buildup, which can make roads slippery, knock down tree limbs and damage the power grid.

Some troubles have already started: more than 3,000 domestic flights scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday were canceled due to bad weather.

In Texas, Governor Greg Abbott assured that the state is better prepared for the storm this year – in February 2021, problems with the state’s electrical grid left thousands of people without power and therefore without heating, for weeks.

Some school districts in Texas and Missouri have also closed because of the storm.

In New York, there is no forecast that this winter storm will hit the region, yet it is possible to see some reflections, such as a rainy Thursday all day. In New York City, the streets are still covered in snow from the weekend, and staff and residents are still working to clear streets and sidewalks.
