“Block” and from Twitter to the accounts of RT and Sputnik in the European Union

The Twitter blocked the accounts of the Russian media RT and Sputnik in the European Union, following the ban imposed by member countries on these instruments on the European market and which entered into force on Wednesday (2/3).

These two media accused of being tools of “misinformation” of Moscow in its war against Ukraine, in accordance with the decision of the Member States of the European Union.

It is no longer possible for Twitter users in the EU to have access to the various accounts of Russia Today and Sputnik.

According to the decision published in the Official Journal of the EU on Wednesday, the content of Sputnik and RT in English, German, French and Spanish can no longer be broadcast on the Internet and on television in the countries of the Union.

Before this decision enters into force, big internet companies had already banned content of Russian networks: Facebook and Instagram announced on Monday that they are blocking the content of RT and Sputnik in the EU, while on Tuesday a similar announcement was made by YouTube.

For its part, Spotify announced today that it has closed its office in Russia indefinitely in response to “Moscow’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine.”
