Bloodhound Wins Traditional Dog Tournament in USA; see pictures of winners

Trumpet, a bloodhound, was crowned Best of the Contest at the 146th edition of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Contest on Wednesday night.

The championship is the second oldest continuous sporting event in the United States, after the Kentucky Derby, and it crowned its first winner among competitors who won previous group categories.

Trumpet, who is four years old, is tutored by Chris and Bryan Flessner, Heather Buehner and Tina Kocar, according to the Westminster Kennel Club (WKC).

The bloodhound is “one of the oldest breeds to hunt by scent”, according to the WKC classifications. A discovery of a bloodhound can be used in court, according to the club.

Winston, a French bulldog, took home the title of Second Best of the Contest. One of Winston’s tutors is American National League football player Morgan Fox.

The show kicked off Saturday at the Lyndhurst estate in Tarrytown, New York, making this the second time the event has taken place at the venue instead of where it traditionally took place at Madison Square Garden. The competition was initially relocated due to protective measures against Covid-19.

Nearly 3,500 dogs — representing more than 200 breeds and varieties — participated in the competition, according to a press release from the organizers.

The seven finalists of the competition competed in smaller groups previously, check out the winners:
