The British government is preparing to intervene and temporarily nationalize the British retail arm of the Russian gas company Gazprom, Bloomberg reported today, as the companies cut ties with Russian companies, as broadcast by APE-MPE.
Gazprom Marketing & Trading Retail Ltd, whose parent company is the Russian state-owned Gazprom, is the main candidate to join the UK’s special administration regime, according to Bloomberg, citing a knowledgeable person.
The plant, which operates as Gazprom Energy, supplies just over one-fifth of Britain’s commercial gas volume and serves thousands of customers, including the UK National Health System.
Neither Gazprom Energy nor the British Ministry of Operations immediately responded to Reuters emails to comment on the article.
The Sunday Times, meanwhile, reported that Gazprom Energy was trying to find a buyer to prevent the collapse, as many large customers sought to withdraw multimillion-pound contracts in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
