Blue Monday: Today is the most depressing day of 2022 – The equation that “measures” the degree of melancholy

Today, January 17, the most dawned depressive day of the year and is called Blue Monday. This is the third Monday in January and the reason why our day “waters” melancholy is a combination of factors related to the holidays and the goals of the new year, with the stress of the pandemic now being added to the explosive cocktail that causes intense psychological load.

THE The idea was first conceived in 2004 by the psychologist Dr. Cliff Arnall, making a formula for the melancholy of January when he was commissioned by Sky Travel, to promote the travel company’s winter deals, according to Newsweek.

The equation of… melancholy

Cliff Arnall considered a number of factors that may contribute to a bad mood by making the following equation:

[W + (D – d)] X TQ / M x Na

W = weather
D = debt
d = monthly salary
T = time since Christmas
Q = time since the failure of the new year decisions
M = low motivation levels
Na = the feeling of the need for action.

The definition of Blue Monday may not be in agreement with scientists, who describe it as arbitrary, stating that it can not stand scientifically, however, there is a condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder, a form of depression that can occur at certain times.
