Blue Origin: The third manned space flight has taken place

A Blue Origin rocket was launched from Texas today with six passengers on board, including Laura Shepard Churchley, the daughter of the first American to reach space, who crossed the last border sixty years after her father’s historic flight.

This is the third manned flight of billionaire Jeff Bezos, who made the trip himself with the first launch in July.

The rocket took off at 09:01 local time in Texas (17:01 Greek time) for a flight that lasted a few minutes. The capsule at the top of the fully autonomous six-story spacecraft ascended to a height of about 106 kilometers before returning to Earth, descending with deployed parachutes to land gently in the desert. The rocket, for its part, returned automatically and landed on a runway.

The entire flight, from take-off to landing, took just over 10 minutes. The crew was found for a few minutes in weightlessness.

It was the first time the New Shepard rocket capsule was full, named after Laura Shepard Churchley’s father, American space champion Alan Shepard. On previous flights there were only four passengers.

Also on the capsule today were a US celebrity, TV presenter and former American football player Michael Strachan, and four passengers who had paid for the trip: businessmen Dylan Taylor and Ivan Dick and a father and his child, Lane and Cameron. Bes, 23 years old. The ticket price is not known.

The rocket took off vertically and at an altitude of about 75 km the capsule was detached, which continued its course until it reached an altitude of over 100 km, where the Carman line begins, which delimits the beginning of space, according to the international convention.

The passengers were able to fasten their seat belts, find themselves for a few minutes in weightless conditions and admire the curve of the earth through very large portholes.
