Bluesky or Threads? Compare the two alternatives to X

A week after the suspension of X, formerly Twitter, in Brazil, users are still searching for the best alternative to replace the experience on the platform. Two seem to have stood out as the preferred choice of Brazilians: Bluesky and the Threads .

Similar in many ways, but different in others, compare the two social networks to choose the best alternative for you.

Bluesky

Developed by Jack Dorsey, creator and former CEO of Twitter, Bluesky is considered a “decentralized” Twitter. Created using open source code, the network’s unique feature is the possibility of integration between platforms and greater control over content consumption.

Bluesky’s features are very similar to Twitter, both in terms of the resources available and the platform’s appearance. Brazilians are missing some features on the platform, but Bluesky’s operations director has already confirmed that videos and trending topics will be available soon.

You can follow and search other people’s accounts and you can also see updates and posts from people you follow on a timeline, as well as publish your own posts, with a limit of up to 300 characters.

In Bluesky, you can also better control what appears in your feed, selecting the subjects you want or don’t want to see, creating feeds only for specific subjects — like posts about your favorite artist, for example.

How to create your account? It is possible to create a free profile on the network directly at website or in the app, available for Android and iOS. To do this, simply enter the necessary information, such as date of birth, email address and a password.

Threads

Threads was launched by Meta (the same company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp) in July 2023 to compete with the then-Twitter. The platform looks a lot like X, with a feed of text-based posts — though users can also post photos and videos — where people can have real-time conversations.

Meta said messages posted to Threads will have a 500-character limit. And users can reply to, repost and quote other people’s posts.

The app works seamlessly with Instagram, featuring the photo-based social network’s existing aesthetic and navigation system, and offers the ability to share Threads posts directly to Instagram Stories.

In Threads, users have less control over the content that appears in their feed. The algorithm is controlled by Meta, and defines which posts each user sees based on their profile and interactions.

How to create your account? To create a profile on platform You must have an Instagram login (if you don’t have one, you will need to create a profile on the photo social network first). The profile is created through Instagram.

When you download the Threads app, you must log in with your Instagram account to access the app’s features.

Internet access grows, but Brazil still has “digital exclusions”
