Blumenau announces vacations in municipal schools and kindergartens to hire armed security

The city of Blumenau announced, on Saturday night (8), that schools and kindergartens in the municipal education network will have a week of vacation starting this Monday (10).

The purpose of the measure is to use this period to legally organize the hiring of private security to work in these places – a response to the attack on a day care center last week.

On Wednesday, a 25-year-old man broke into the nursery, killing four children and injuring five others. According to the Fire Department, the fatal victims were three boys and a girl, aged 5 to 7 years old.

“We are all still very impacted by what happened and we know that this time will be important for everyone. To parents and guardians, days of rest with the little ones after so much anguish, and to the municipality, days of work so that we can expedite the hiring of armed security for the service”, declared Mayor Mário Hildrebrandt, in a press release.

Meanwhile, the government of Santa Catarina reported that state network schools in the city will resume classes this Monday (10). Activities had also been suspended after the attack on the day care center.

Blumenau has 33 state schools with around 23,000 students.

According to the government, the Military Police made 19 vehicles available to the city, in addition to the entire staff of the 10th Battalion of the PM.

“The priority is to serve and guard the schools and will continue to do so with the increase in personnel and other intelligence actions, with the help of the other security forces and the BPMs in the region”, reported the government.

Teacher who helped rescue students suffers heart attack

A teacher who witnessed the attack on the Cantinho Bom Pastor day care center, in Blumenau (SC), last Wednesday (5) and helped to rescue the students, suffered a heart attack the day after the incident.

According to a note from the day care center, the teacher, identified only as Alaide, was seen with “a compatible picture of acute coronary syndrome”. She performed tests and found acute myocardial infarction.

The teacher underwent a catheterization and an electrocardiogram, which ruled out the existence of arterial disease and did not show sequelae.

In a statement, the Cantinho do Bom Pastor day care center said that the cause of the heart attack was “probably due to the adrenergic discharge due to the emotional trauma of having witnessed the tragedy”. The daycare also said that the teacher is fine, medicated and has already been discharged.
