BMW and Porsche are cutting production due to a lack of parts from Ukraine

BMW and Porsche are forced to suspend operations in Germany due to a lack of parts supplied by Ukraine.

BMW today announced the shutdown of production at its Dingolfing plant in Bavaria, which will affect thousands of workers, and announced delays and shutdowns at other plants across Europe, adding that details are still being studied. where, when and for how long there will be problems.

The Bavarian carmaker is supplying cabling systems from western Ukraine and is currently in “intensive talks” with its partners on the prospect of co-operation.

BMW announced a few days ago that it is suspending its car production at the Kaliningrad plant in Russia, as well as car exports to the country. Last year, 12,000 cars were built in Kaliningrad together with Avtor’s Russian partner, and it sold a total of 49,000 cars in Russia. “We condemn the attack on Ukraine and are watching the developments with great concern and disappointment,” a company spokesman said today, reiterating that BMW clearly supported the sanctions against Russia.

Porsche is facing similar problems, announcing today that it is suspending production at the Leipzig plant, in the first phase by the end of next week, due to problems in the delivery of parts from Ukraine. In this unit, where the Macan and Panamera models are manufactured, the employees will be put on a part-time work schedule, while similar decisions may be taken at other production points of the Volkswagen Group company. “In the coming weeks we will be constantly assessing the situation,” he said, adding that “a lasting solution can only be found on the basis of international law, but in all activities on the ground the highest priority is the safety of the people.”
