In addition to the chameleon car, which changes its body color at the touch of a button, BMW presented another interesting development at CES 2022 called Theater Screen. It’s a giant 31-inch display with a 32: 9 aspect ratio that somehow attaches itself to the ceiling of the car, turning into a cinema for the rear passengers.
The display has a resolution of 8K (approximately 8000 × 2000 pixels) and can play content in 16: 9, 21: 9, or 32: 9 aspect ratios. It runs on Amazon Fire OS, which means passengers will have access to most modern streaming services and various Fire TV apps. Streaming is done via a 5G connection in the car. The display is touch-sensitive, the content can be controlled either directly on the screen itself or with the help of additional remotes built into the door cards.

Since Theater Screen is primarily about films, TV series and other videos, it provides a powerful audio system from more than 30 Bowers & Wilkins speakers. BMW claims 4D audio support – some speakers are built into the rear seats to sense the vibrations from the sound waves. When the screen is lowered from the ceiling, the louvers automatically cover the side windows and rear window, and the interior lighting is dimmed.
BMW did not disclose when such a cinema for the car will be available or how much it might cost. In the showroom, the company had a booth to demonstrate the capabilities of Theater Screen. The model of the car in which the display was installed was not named, but journalists suggested that it belongs to the premium 7-series.
