Bayerische Motoren Werke announced that it sold more cars in 2021 than last year, mainly thanks to the strong growth of the BMW brand and its electrical products.
The German carmaker sold a total of 2.5 million vehicles in 2021, up 8.4% from a year earlier.
BMW brand sales increased 9.1% to 2.2 million units, and reached the highest level.
The annual progress was recorded despite the decline in the fourth quarter, when the group’s worldwide sales decreased by 14%.
The company stressed that sales of electric vehicles more than doubled to 103,855 vehicles and that it will proceed with the electric drive.
“We want to continue profitable growth in 2022 and more than double the sales of electric vehicles again,” said Pieter Nota, a member of the BMW board.
