These engines are part of the fifth generation BMW eDrive powertrains, in which the electric motor, transmission and all electronics are combined into one module.
It is worth adding that the fifth generation eDrive units generate 30% more power than all previous BMW engines, while the efficiency is 93%. It is also known that the two drive units will produce about 370 kW (500 horsepower), while they will be “powered” by a battery with a capacity of more than 100 kWh. Such parameters will help to increase the driving range up to 600 km. It is important to note that the manufacturer has limited the maximum speed to 200 km / h.
As for the entry-level model, the iX xDrive40, it will be equipped with a smaller battery capacity: only 79 kWh. Because of this, the range of the crossover will decrease to 400 km. The iX xDrive40 will also receive dual electric motors providing all-wheel drive, but their performance will drop to 240 kW (300 horsepower). The company announced that it will start accepting orders for electric vehicles as early as June 2021. The iX xDrive40 and iX xDrive50 will appear on the Russian market already in 2022. However, crossover prices are likely to be significantly higher.
