BNDES postpones hearing on privatization of the Port of Santos to September 6

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) postponed from August 22 to September 6 the holding of a public hearing to discuss the privatization of the Port of Santos and receive suggestions for the process.

The rescheduling of the date appears in a notice published in the Official Gazette (DOU) this Friday (19).

The hearing will be virtual and will start at 9:30 am. Those interested in participating in the debate can obtain information on the BNDES website.

At the beginning of the month, the Minister of Infrastructure, Marcelo Sampaio, said that the government will send the studies for the privatization of the Port of Santos in August to the Federal Audit Court (TCU).

Sampaio has also reiterated that the government intends to auction the asset this year, in December.

“We intend to carry out three privatization of port authorities this year: São Sebastião, Itajaí and Porto de Santos by the end of the year”, he repeated on Thursday (18) at a press conference.

As already shown by Broadcast, Grupo Estado’s real-time news system, the auction in 2022 is seen with increasing suspicion in the sector — and even by government officials.

In order to hold the auction in December, the government expects that TCU will approve the privatization by October.

The Court, however, may take longer to review the port project.
