An explosion on a boat that was in the Port of Manaus left one person dead and eight injured this Friday (11).
According to information from the port, the accident happened around 2 pm, while workers were washing the boat’s tank during routine work.
Shortly after the explosion, which took place in the vessel’s hold, the port’s Fire Brigade, SAMU, Fire Department, Port Authority and Military Police were called to the scene.
The Amazonas Military Police reported that the injured were taken to hospitals in the region.
In a note, the Brazilian Navy said it will launch an investigation to determine the causes and possible perpetrators of the explosion.
“An Inquiry will be initiated by the River Captaincy of the Western Amazon in order to determine the causes, circumstances and possible culprits. As soon as it is concluded, and the legal formalities are fulfilled, the Inquiry will be forwarded to the Maritime Court, which will make the due distribution and assessment, giving the Special Prosecutor’s Office of the Navy a view, so that it adopts the foreseen measures.”
