Bob Marley’s Legacy

Bob Marley devoted much of his career in reggae music to dealing with political and social issues. The Jamaican’s compositions denounced racism, social inequality, war and spoke about black resistance, spirituality and social justice.

In 1978, the singer managed to get the Jamaican Prime Minister, Michael Manley, and Edward Seage, leader of the opposition party, to join hands on stage and make an oath of peace. The episode became known as the day “One Love” stopped the civil war.

The singer died in 1981, aged 36, from melanoma, a type of cancer.
