Bob McGrath, an actor who played friendly neighbor Bob Johnson as an original cast member on the children’s show “Sesame Street,” has died, according to statements from his family and Sesame Workshop shared on social media Monday. . He was 90 years old.
“The McGrath family has some sad news to share. Our father Bob McGrath passed away today. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family,” said the family’s statement shared on Facebook.
Sesame Workshop paid tribute to McGrath’s nearly five decades on the show on Twitter.

McGrath appeared in the pilot of “Sesame Street” in 1969 and worked on the show for 47 seasons, leaving the series in 2017 but still representing it at various events in recent years.
