Body found in Thames may belong to Clapham acid attack attacker

His police London announced today that it estimates that one corpse found in the river Thames of the capital belongs to the perpetrator of last month's acid attack that left several people injured.

The police started looking for him Abdul Ezedi after a woman and her two daughters, aged 8 and 3, were attacked on January 31 in Clapham, south London, a horrific incident which caused the mother trauma that will change the rest of her life.

London's Metropolitan Police, which earlier this month announced that Ezedi was believed to have drowned in the Thames based on security camera footage, now said a body was found yesterday afternoon floating near Tower Pier and was being collected by Marine Patrol Unit.

Based on the distinctive clothing he was wearing at the time of the attack and items found on him, we believe we have found Ezedi's bodyMetropolitan Police Commander John Savel said in a statement.

As you can imagine, after quite a long period of time in the strong currents of the Thames, formal identification is not possible visually, not even from fingerprints. We will work with the medical examiner in other ways to complete formal identification, such as dental records and DNA testing. This may take some timeSavel added.

The case had taken on political dimensions in Britain because Ezedi had been granted asylum despite being convicted of a sex offence. The BBC reported that he was originally from Afghanistan and had arrived in Britain in 2016.

The police continue to investigate the attack, while the 31-year-old mother, victim of the attack, is hospitalized and her condition is stable.
