Body of Brazilian killed after praising dog in the US arrives in Brazil almost 40 after the murder

The body of Brazilian Matheus Gaidos, shot dead in the United States (USA) after praising a man’s dog, arrived in Brazil today, almost 40 days after the murder.

The young man’s mother, Isabel Martines, informed the CNN by telephone that the body arrived almost two hours late. The arrival was scheduled for 7:30 am, but it was only at 9:20 am that the body landed at Guarulhos airport.

The transfer of the Brazilian back to Brazil was only released last Friday (28).

Now, Isabel Martines awaits the legal procedures involving the Federal Revenue Service, which must release it for the wake and burial, which are scheduled to take place this Sunday, at the Carmo Cemetery.

On June 21, Matheus, who had lived in the United States since 2018 and worked as a flower delivery man, allegedly had an argument with a dog owner after praising the animal.

The man allegedly slapped Matheus in the face and, after throwing flowers at the victim, pulled out a revolver and fired at close range. Matheus was rescued, but could not resist the injuries.

Since receiving the news of her son’s death, Isabel, who resides in Brazil, has traveled to the US to follow up on investigations and repatriate the body.

“My only child. He was very dear to his friends. He took off his clothes to help others. Always available for a friendly word, always smiling and he loved dogs, and for that love he died.” said Isabel.

A CNN , she said Oakland police released a note in which authorities assigned the suspect ID as 22-year-old Eric Loc Elvira. He was indicted by the Alameda County Prosecutor’s Office for the death of Matheus Gaidos.
