The Israeli army said on Wednesday (28) that the body of a soldier kidnapped by militants from the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023 – the day of the Hamas attack on the country – was recovered and taken to Israel.
The military reported that the rescue operation took place during the night and that the victim’s name would not be published at the request of his family.
“The soldier ‘fell’ during the October 7 massacre and was taken hostage in the Gaza Strip,” they said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the soldiers involved in the operation and stressed that he will continue to do everything possible to bring back to Israel all “remaining hostages and bodies.”
There are believed to be 108 hostages in Gaza, but about a third of them are believed to have died. The Israeli military has not confirmed how many are alive or dead.
Hamas and Israeli leaders continue negotiations through mediators in an attempt to secure a hostage deal and end the 10-month war.
