Boeing expects supply chain problems to persist almost until the end of 2023, led by labor shortages at medium and small suppliers, its chief executive said on Wednesday.
The company said last month that production of the 737 aircraft was slowed by the lack of a single type of wiring connector.
“There’s been a shift from demand to supply issues now…it’s remarkable, the speed with which it’s happened,” Boeing Chief Executive David Calhoun said at the Qatar Economic Forum held by Bloomberg in Doha.
The executive said Boeing has a large and complicated supply chain, leading to problems when there are delays.
“It’s been a real problem for both manufacturers and will likely remain that way, in my opinion, almost until the end of next year,” Calhoun said.
“And the biggest constraint of all for this set of mid-tier and mid-tier vendors is the availability of labor,” he said.
Airbus said last month it saw increasing near-term risks in its supply chain but expressed confidence that suppliers would be able to keep pace.
