Boeing paid its condolences to the families of the victims of the plane crash recorded this Sunday, 29th, in South Korea, local time (Saturday night, 28th, Brasília time). The company also said that it was in contact with the carrier Jeju Air.
Jeju Air Flight 2216 from Bangkok, listed on flight tracking websites as a Boeing 737-800, crashed at Muan International Airport.
“We are in contact with Jeju Air regarding Flight 2216 and stand ready to support them,” Boeing said in a brief statement posted to its X account.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones and our thoughts remain with the passengers and crew,” the company added.
Hard times
US aviation giant Boeing has been through turbulent times in recent years, including two 737 Max crashes, a tragedy for which the company agreed to plead guilty for misleading the Federal Aviation Administration during the plane’s certification process.
However, analysts have described the Boeing 737-800 as a reliable workhorse of the skies with an extremely strong safety record.
The accident
An aircraft carrying 181 people – 175 passengers and six crew – left the runway and collided with an airport wall this Sunday (29), local time (Saturday night, 28, Brasília time). At least 122 people died, and two were rescued.
