BoG: Private sector deposits increased by only 11 million in October

Private sector deposits recorded a marginal increase in October, with the rate of change of all deposits slowing down, as well as the rate of change in the financing of the domestic economy, as shown by the data of the Bank of Greece.

In particular, the annual rate of change of the total financing of the domestic economy was 12.5% ​​in October 2021 from 13.1% in the previous month.

During the same period, the annual rate of change of total deposits amounted to 10.1% from 11.4% in the previous month, while private sector deposits increased by 11 million euros in October 2021, compared to an increase of 441 million. euros in the previous month.

Financing the domestic economy

More specifically, the monthly net flow of total funding was positive by 1,277 million euros in October 2021, compared to a positive net flow of 2,082 million euros in the previous month (revised data).

I.1 General government funding

The monthly net flow of funding to general government in October 2021 was positive by € 1,319 million, compared to a positive net flow of € 1,457 million last month. The annual rate of change in general government funding fell to 46.2% from 51.5% the previous month.

I.2 Private sector financing

In October 2021, the annual rate of change in total private sector financing stood at 0.9% from 0.8% the previous month. The monthly net flow of total funding to the private sector was negative by € 42 million, compared to a positive net flow of € 625 million in the previous month (revised figures).

I.2.1 Business financing

The monthly net flow of financing to businesses in October 2021 was positive by 148 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 611 million euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change increased to 3.8% from 3.5 % last month. In particular, the annual rate of change in the financing of non-financial corporations (NFIs) increased to 3.0% from 2.8% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of their funding was positive by 215 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 384 million euros last month. The annual rate of change in the financing of insurance companies and other financial institutions increased to 12.6% from 11.4% in the previous month. The monthly net flow of their funding was negative by 67 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 227 million euros last month.

I.2.2 Financing of freelancers, farmers and sole proprietors

In October 2021, the monthly net flow of funding to the self-employed, farmers and sole proprietors was negative by € 73 million, compared to a positive net flow of € 32 million the previous month. The annual rate of change in their funding fell to 2.0% from 2.6% last month.

I.2.3 Financing of private and private non-profit institutions

The negative net flow of funding to individuals and private non-profit institutions in October 2021 was negative by 117 million euros, compared to a negative net flow of 18 million euros in the previous month (revised data). The annual rate of change of their financing was -2.5% from -2.6% in the previous month.

Deposits of the domestic economy in domestic credit institutions

At the same time, the monthly net flow of total deposits was positive by 430 million euros, compared to a positive net flow of 207 million euros in September 2021.

II.1 Deposits from the general government

In October 2021, general government deposits increased by 419 million euros, compared to a decrease of 234 million euros in the previous month, and the annual rate of change was -11.0% from -16.7% the previous year. month.

II.2 Deposits from the private sector

In October 2021, private sector deposits increased by 11 million euros, compared to an increase of 441 million euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change decreased to 11.5% from 13.3% in the previous month.

II.2.1 Deposits from companies

In October 2021, corporate deposits decreased by 454 million euros, compared to a decrease of 60 million euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change increased to 36.1% from 33.2% in the previous month. In particular, MXE deposits decreased by 563 million euros, compared to an increase of 249 million euros last month. Deposits from insurance companies and other financial institutions increased by € 109 million, compared with a decrease of € 309 million last month.

II.2.2 Deposits from households and private non-profit institutions

In October 2021, the deposits of households and private non-profit institutions increased by 465 million euros, compared to an increase of 501 million euros in the previous month, while the annual rate of change decreased to 8.8% from 9.9 % last month.
