The stage at Theatro Municipal de São Paulo will be taken over by the beat of funk next Monday night (2). In an unprecedented action, the Brazilian popular rhythm will be in evidence in the iconic building opened in 1911 in the center of the capital of São Paulo.
Among the attractions expected at the event are singer Tati Quebra Barraco and DJ Marlboro. Tickets are free and should be collected in advance on the theater’s website, but they are already sold out, according to the São Paulo Municipal Department of Culture.
The night will also feature performances by Cidinho, MC Hariel, MC Marks, MC Neguinho do Kaxeta and MC Davi, starting at 7pm.
The action marks the launch of the São Paulo City Hall Funk Public Policy Coordination. “Based on this coordination, the City Hall will promote funk, value funk, and help dialogue so that funk can be carried out safely without impacting the surrounding area”, stated Mayor Ricardo Nunes.
The measure seeks to ensure respect for the popular rhythm and improve safety when carrying out “flows” in the city. The new coordination will be responsible for dialoguing with the Public Ministry, Military Police, sub-prefectures and civil society to achieve the aforementioned objectives.
During Monday’s ceremony, DJ Marlboro and Tati Quebra Barraco will participate in a debate about the importance of funk for the city’s culture and economy. Afterwards, presentations by the announced artists take place.
