A gruesome crime appears to have taken place in Boliviawith prosecutors investigating a complaint about gang rape of a 12-year-old girl by 11 men. Three of the suspects have already been arrested, while the police are hunting the other eight accused.
In accordance with dailymail.co.uk, the men allegedly “grabbed” the young woman from a cultural event she was attending with her family. Subsequently, they gave her alcohol and raped her in a ‘remote location’. Ronald Vargas, the prosecutor handling the case, did not specify how she was managed to be removed from her family and where exactly the alleged gang-rape took place.
The horrific attack happened on early morning hours of Monday (25/09) in the city of Oruro, which is roughly between the capital La Paz and Sucre. It is the fifth largest city in Bolivia by population.
Bolivia’s State Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement: “The Prosecutor of the Oruro Department, Aldo Morales Alconini, reported today that the Ministry is investigating an act of rape committed against a minor girl, aged 12, which was allegedly attacked by 11 people. So far VÃctor QR, VÃctor H.CH and Adolfo CC have been arrested and will be charged in the next few hours. The Prosecutor’s Office will also request in a court hearing the preventive detention of the suspects, while the police will continue to pursue the remaining persons.”
Mr. Morales added: “As soon as we became aware of the attack, we began the corresponding investigation covering it psychological support of the victim, identification of the suspects and a forensic certificate that will prove the existence of the criminal act and help identify the first three suspects. We will continue to work closely with the police to find the rest of those responsible and bring them to justice. The forensic report shows that the girl has obvious signs of physical abuse and abrasions on her spine. We are analyzing the information and assistance we will need from the Institute of Forensic Investigations and others, with the aim of solving this incident so that it does not go unpunished. We want to ensure that those responsible are sentenced to 30 years in prison».
