Former Ambassador and Expert CNN Rubens Barbosa said, this Thursday (9), that the meeting between Jair Bolsonaro and Joe Biden followed a “script” and will hardly impact the bilateral relationship. The meeting between the leaders of the largest countries in the Americas, presidents of the United States and Brazil, took place during the Summit of the Americas, in Los Angeles.
“With my experience, this meeting changes absolutely nothing in the bilateral relationship, it was a meeting of mutual interest. Bilateral relations are much broader. This meeting – contrary to what Bolsonaro said – will hardly have a follow-up before the elections,” said the former ambassador.
“I can say that I am delighted with Biden,” Bolsonaro tells CNN

“Nothing has changed in the relationship, nothing will change in the political, economic or social areas, it was a circumstance meeting”, he added.
The meeting between Biden and Bolsonaro took place during the Summit of the Americas, an event based in Los Angeles that brings together the leaders of the region. In an interview with CNN after the bilateral meeting, Bolsonaro stated that he and Biden “share the same perception”.
“No one left the script, everyone said what they wanted to say, without confrontation, that was the spirit of the meeting. Both had objectives, which were achieved, and neither one nor the other was interested in antagonizing them”, said Barbosa.
