Bolsonaro asks truck drivers to photograph the bombs at gas stations

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Tuesday (7) that he has asked truck drivers to photograph the panels of pumps at gas stations across the country as a way to ensure that prices fall when the project under discussion in Congress providing for the reduction of ICMS on fuels is approved.

Today, I started talking to truck drivers, everybody, to photograph the fuel pump panels. Because, when the PEC is enacted and the bill that has already been approved in the House and is in the Senate is sanctioned, the reduction is already for the next day”, he said in an interview with SBT News.

According to Bolsonaro, with the pressure of truck drivers photographing the bombs, “we will demand that the profit margin of tankers and the owner of a gas station is not increased with our tax reduction”.

In May, the Chamber of Deputies approved a government proposal that classifies fuels as essential and indispensable sectors and limits the collection of the Tax on the Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) to up to 17%. The bill needs Senate approval.

On Monday (6), the president of the Chamber, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), and the president announced a Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) that foresees the reduction of federal fuel taxes with financial compensation to the states.

“What we have now proposed: the part of the ICMS that goes to the governors will no longer go, I will pay that part, and you lower the price of fuel at the pump. This is the suggestion for diesel, there will be no more ICMS or federal tax on diesel”, said the president during the interview.

In relation to gasoline and alcohol, he stated that he intends to zero PIS and Cofins. “We’re going to have to use all our means so that this tax reduction gets to the bomb in the end. Otherwise, it can ‘disappear’ halfway between carriers, the owner of the gas station itself,” he said.

According to Bolsonaro, in order for the objective of the proposal to reduce the values to be fulfilled, the stations must inform the refinery from which they receive the fuel.

“First, I want each gas station to have the value of the gasoline, the cost price of the gasoline from the refinery it receives from,” he said.

calamity decree

During the interview, Bolsonaro also talked about the possibility of issuing a new calamity decree to pay for a subsidy that controls the rise in prices, but denied that the measure will be adopted.

“It’s a weapon you have that you can push the button whenever you want. At this time, this was studied and we came to the conclusion that it was not the case to tighten the calamity decree. Why, immediately, for example, you can’t give a readjustment to the server for two years and a series of other things”, he said.
