Bolsonaro attacks Alexandre de Moraes and compares himself to former Bolivian president

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) again criticized Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Saturday (11).

In Orlando, in the United States, he criticized Moraes’ decisions against federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ) and the conduct of the fake news survey . He even questioned whether the minister is a psychopath and compared his own situation with that of the former president of Bolivia. Jeanine Áñez sentenced this week to ten years in prison.

“Alexandre Moraes arrested a deputy [Daniel Silveira] for eight months for talking nonsense. The deputy has a weapon in article 53 of the Constitution, which says that deputies and other senators are civilly and criminally inviolable,” Bolsonaro said.

“I gave this parliamentarian a personal pardon. And this guy [Alexandre de Moraes] continues to persecute the congressman, fining him, now blocking the salary of his wife, who is a lawyer and defends him. That’s not democracy, it’s censorship. This has never happened in Brazil”, he continued.

When criticizing the fake news inquiry, in which he is investigated, the president again quoted Moraes. “Alexandre de Moraes conducts an investigation in which the Public Ministry does not participate and investigates me. He investigates me for fake news. Wow, I don’t want to lower the level of the interview, right? What’s on this guy’s head? What is he getting out of it? What are his interests? Who is he connected to? Or is he a psychopath?” he questioned.

He then compared his own situation with that of the former Bolivian president. Jeanine Áñez took power in 2019 when Evo Morales was overthrown.

“What happened a year ago? Is it over there [Jeanine Áñez] was preventively arrested. And now it’s confirmed, right? Ten years in jail for her. What’s the charge? Undemocratic acts. Does anyone make any correlation with Alexandre Moraes?”, commented Bolsonaro.

Áñez was convicted of making “decisions contrary to the Constitution” and for “abuse of duty”.

THE CNN sought out Minister Alexandre de Moraes and is awaiting a return.
