Bolsonaro declares 3-day mourning in Brazil for the death of Queen Elizabeth II

President Jair Bolsonaro declared three days of official mourning in Brazil for the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who died at the age of 96 this Thursday (8).

“Official mourning is declared throughout the country for a period of three days from the date of publication of this Decree, as a sign of sorrow for the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, Great Britain and Northern Ireland. ”, informed the government in a decree signed by Bolsonaro and Chancellor Carlos França.

Other government officials, such as Vice President Hamilton Mourão and Civil House Minister Ciro Nogueira, also expressed their regret after Buckingham Palace announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the UK’s longest-serving monarch and the country’s central figure for seven decades.

The queen, who died peacefully at age 96 at Balmoral Palace in Scotland, according to a palace statement, visited more than 100 countries during her reign of just over 70 years, including Brazil.

The Brazilian Government received, with deep regret, the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II, at Balmoral Castle, in Scotland. The President of the Federative Republic of Brazil declared three days of official mourning.

Throughout her more than 70-year reign, the longest-serving monarch in UK history has been a symbol of leadership and stability for the country and the world.

His visit in 1968, alongside the Duke of Edinburgh, to Recife, Salvador, Brasília, São Paulo, Campinas and Rio de Janeiro is remembered by the Government and the Brazilian people as a mark of friendship between Brazil and the United Kingdom.

Remembering the visit of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh to Brazil is to value the strategic partnership between Brazil and the United Kingdom, which covers a large number of areas – trade, health, investment, academic exchange, science and technology – and which has , as a major objective, to contribute to the well-being of Brazilians and Britons, in favor of the progress of both countries.

The Brazilian Government conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, as well as to the Government and People of the United Kingdom and other members of the Commonwealth.
