Bolsonaro intestinal obstruction is the result of the 2018 stab, says doctor

With the recent hospitalization of former President Jair Bolsonaro due to abdominal disability and intestinal obstruction, it is normal to wonder if such problems may be related to the stab he received during the 2018 electoral race. And in fact, there is correlation.

According to gastroenterologist Alexandre Carlos, assistant doctor of the Gastroenterology Department of the Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo (HC-FMUSP), drilling through the knife generates inflammation within the abdominal cavity and some scars (technically called “bridas”). “Sometimes these scars’ pull the gut, causing a partial or total obstruction of the organ,” describes the expert.

The expert explains, however, that the paintings vary from person to person. “It will depend on the degree of inflammation and the amount of bridges formed,” says Carlos. Obstruction may be temporary or definitive, in the second case, surgery is necessary, which probably occurred with Bolsonaro.

“But to understand if obstruction is temporary or definitive, it is necessary to keep the patient for a while in ‘fasting’ of solid foods and some improve spontaneously, and others will need to do a surgical treatment,” he adds.
