President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) should land this Thursday (3) in Porto Velho (RO), where he is scheduled to meet with the president of Peru, Pedro Castillo. “Peru is an important economic partner for Brazil and a strategic one for Rondônia and Acre in terms of access to the Pacific,” said deputy government leader in the Senate, Marcos Rogério (PL-RO), to CNN. In a conversation with supporters this Tuesday, the president confirmed the trip to Rondônia
There will be a meeting, followed by lunch, at Palácio Rio Madeira, the seat of the government of Rondônia. The state governor Marcos Rocha (PSL) also participates. The presence of the governor of Acre, Gladson Cameli (PP), has not yet been confirmed.
According to the Planalto Palace, Bolsonaro’s plane should take off at 8 am, this Thursday, from Brasília towards Rondônia, with a scheduled return at 6 pm, on the same day.
Castillo and Bolsonaro have very different political backgrounds. The Peruvian president is a former unionist, linked to the center-left wing in Peru. A member of a Marxist-Leninist party, Castillo announced in recent days that he will carry out a new ministerial reform, changing his cabinet of ministers for the third time in just six months in office, which will depend on confirmation from Congress.
In a political and popularity crisis, Castillo responds to accusations of conspiracy and influence peddling in cases related to government contracts for public works. Five former presidents of Peru have been formally investigated for corruption in recent years.
