President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) met, this Friday (20), with businessman Elon Musk, in the interior of São Paulo. The owner of Starlink intends to provide internet connection to 19 thousand Brazilian rural schools and an environmental monitoring of the Amazon.
For Bolsonaro, his arrival “is a milestone for all of us Brazilians, a sign that he believes in Brazil and wants a partnership”.
Communications Minister Fábio Faria accompanied the president at the press conference and highlighted that “Elon Musk would never come to Brazil if he did not have the concrete objective of doing what he promised: connecting schools and protecting the environment”.
Publication of the new Ipespe survey
The XP/Ipespe poll shows former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) with 44% of voting intentions in the race for the Planalto Palace. President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) has 32%. Elections are scheduled for October 2. Lula and Bolsonaro maintained the same score in relation to the institute’s previous survey, released on May 13.
Then come former minister Ciro Gomes (PDT), with 8%, and former governor of São Paulo, João Doria (PSDB), with 4%. The toucan oscillated one point higher, within the margin of error of 3.2 points. Federal deputy André Janones (Avante) and senator Simone Tebet (MDB) registered 2%.
Felipe d’Avila (Novo), Vera Lúcia (PSTU) and Eymael (DC) did not score ― although they were mentioned, they did not reach 1%. Luciano Bivar (União Brasil) was not included in the final result of the research. It was in the applied questionnaire, but was not mentioned by any respondent. In the last two Ipespe surveys, he did not score.
White, null or would not vote for any of the candidates add up to 6%. Undecided represent 2% of respondents.
Moro admits possibility of running for Senate
Former judge Sergio Moro (União Brasil) declared in an interview with “Webradio Insuperável”, that there is a possibility of his candidacy for the Federal Senate by the state of São Paulo.
“There is that possibility. The election hasn’t even started, actually. We are in the pre-campaign period. We’re still on the campaign trail. But my collaboration will be different”, said Moro.
“So, I’m in São Paulo today and I’m building a space here. This has to be built, of course, within the party. But it is possible, likely, that I will be a candidate for the Senate for São Paulo, but this is still under construction”, he continued, admitting that he could also run “for another position.”
Dow Jones’ biggest possible loss since 1923
The stock market selloff has put the Dow Jones Industrial Average on track for its longest streak of weekly losses in nearly a century.
After opening the day higher, the Dow turned negative and dropped about 270 points, or 0.9%, in recent trade. The Dow is down nearly 4% so far this week.
If the Dow ends the week in a decline — which seems like a certain fate — it will be the eighth consecutive weekly loss. That would be the longest weekly losing streak since 1923, according to FactSet data reviewed by LPL Financial.
Cut off gas from Russia to Finland
Russian company Gazprom has informed Finland that it will stop sending natural gas to the country from Saturday morning, said Finnish state gas company Gasum.
This is because Gasum refused to pay Gazprom Export in rubles, as Russia requested from European countries.
“It is highly regrettable that the supply of natural gas under our contract is now being discontinued,” Gasum Chief Executive Mika Wiljanen said in a statement.
