Bolsonaro met with the Minister of Justice, responsible for the PF, on the day that Ribeiro says he spoke to the president

On the day that the former Minister of Education Milton Ribeiro told his daughter that President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) told him he had a “hunch” that he could be targeted by the Federal Police, Bolsonaro was with the Minister of Justice and Public Security, delegate Anderson Torres, on a trip to the United States.

The PF is subordinate to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, currently headed by Anderson Torres. Ribeiro’s conversation with his daughter was one of the reasons that led the Federal Public Ministry to argue that there had been an attempt to interfere by President Jair Bolsonaro in the case.

Ribeiro’s conversation with his daughter took place on June 9, according to investigations. Bolsonaro, Torres and the rest of the presidential entourage went to the United States on the night of June 8. During the 9th, they fulfilled commitments in Los Angeles at the Summit of the Americas.

In the dialogue with his daughter, Ribeiro said that he had talked to Bolsonaro that day. “Today the president called me. He has a feeling again that they might want to reach him through me,” said the former minister, according to police investigations.

THE CNN found that the PF sent the arrest and search and seizure request against Milton Ribeiro and other targets between June 6th and 8th – therefore, before the call made by Ribeiro to his daughter.

After the request made by the PF to the Justice, the Federal Public Ministry spoke out against the arrest. The MPF document is dated June 14.

The president also met with Pedro Cesar Sousa, Deputy Chief for Legal Affairs of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, at the Brasília Air Base, hours before embarking on a trip to the United States, on June 8. The meeting took place on the eve of Bolsonaro’s alleged call to the former minister of education, Milton Ribeiro, in which the president reportedly warned him about the Federal Police operation that resulted in the former minister’s arrest.

The judge’s decision was signed on June 20. Ribeiro and the other investigated were the target of the Federal Police operation last Wednesday (22). The former minister was released after a decision by judge Ney Bello, of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region (TRF-1).

Wanted to know if there was interference in the PF or if he alerted the minister about a possible search and seizure warrant, Planalto did not respond. This Friday (24), lawyer Frederick Wassef, who defends the president’s family, said that Bolsonaro “has no contact and has never spoken to the former minister again. [Milton Ribeiro]”.

“President Bolsonaro has no contact with the former minister of education, so if it is true, if it turns out that what he is really saying he said, because I don’t know, I don’t have access,” he said.

The defender also denied any interference by the president in the PF. “I want to make the following clear, President Bolsonaro did not interfere, he does not act, he has nothing to do with and is absolutely distant from the former minister and all the others investigated,” he said.

Wassef also said that “if the former minister used the name of President Bolsonaro, he used it without his knowledge, without his authorization, let him respond. It is up to the ex-minister to explain what he talks about”.
