Bolsonaro releases international flights in business class for ministers

President Jair Bolsonaro issued a decree authorizing ministers and civil servants in positions of trust to travel business class on international flights lasting seven hours or more. The authorization is valid for travel in the service of the Union. The decree was published this Wednesday (12) in the Official Gazette of the Union and is already in effect.

In 2018, then-President Michel Temer had decreed that airline tickets for such trips should be “always in economy class”. If the minister or public servant opted for another category, the difference would be paid by him and not by the Union.

The new measure also applies to public servants who replace ministers or such servants. It does not revoke the requirement to issue an economy class airline ticket, but allows, in the aforementioned cases, that executive fare tickets be paid for with public money.
