President Jair Bolsonaro sanctioned a proposal that creates gas aid to help the low-income population to acquire cooking gas, informed the Presidency of the Republic in a statement on Monday (22).
According to the statement, the program will serve families registered in the Federal Government’s Single Registry with monthly per capita income less than or equal to half the minimum wage or who have among their members someone who receives the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC).
“With the program, each eligible family will receive, every two months, a monetary amount corresponding to a portion of at least 50% of the average national reference price of the 13 kg LPG cylinder, established by the Survey System of Prices (SLP) of the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), according to rules to be defined in a decree”, states the note from the Presidency.
Also according to the statement, the government will use the structure of the Auxílio Brasil social program to operationalize the payment of the benefit.
The rise in the price of fuel and cooking gas has been an important factor in the recent rise in inflation and has led to a drop in the popularity of Bolsonaro, who is expected to seek re-election in the market in less than a year, in October, 2022.
