Bolsonaro sanctions the law that institutes the August Lilac, for the protection of women

President Jair Bolsonaro sanctioned, this Friday (9), Bill 3,855, of 2020, which institutes, nationwide, Lilac August as a month of protection for women, aimed at raising awareness for the end of violence against women. the woman.

The project foresees that, throughout the month of August, the federated entities implement initiatives to clarify and raise awareness about the different forms of violence against women, in order to guide and disseminate the measures that can be adopted, judicially and administratively, for the protection of the victim.

In addition, it instructs on initiatives to inform the bodies and entities involved, the support networks available and the channels available for reporting and the instruments to protect victims.

Other planned measures are the promotion of debates and events about public policies for comprehensive care for women, support for activities organized and developed by society with the aim of preventing, combating and confronting different types of violence against women.

According to the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights, Agosto Lilac will be another initiative that complements policies that promote equal rights and opportunities between men and women. Despite the advances brought by the Maria da Penha Law, which turned 16, the numbers of violence, despite being on the decline, still show the need for new measures to be adopted through more effective policies.

This Friday (9), Bolsonaro symbolically sanctioned Bill 14,443 of 2022, which lowers the minimum age for men and women to perform voluntary sterilization from 25 to 21. The text also waives the consent of the spouse for the tubal ligation and vasectomy procedure. This proposal had its sanction published in the Official Gazette on September 5th.
