Bolsonaro says cutting bureaucracy can help the Brazilian economy

During an event this Wednesday afternoon (10), President Jair Bolsonaro stated that reducing bureaucracy can improve the economic situation in Brazil.

“It was very difficult to produce in Brazil, and it is less difficult now, we are getting better”, said the president during the event that consolidated the new Infralegal Labor Regulatory Framework, a set of norms aimed at reducing bureaucracy in the labor area.

The president stated that the bureaucracy is responsible for preventing business from advancing in Brazil and cited a personal case of when he was a diver and gave up on a rescue project because of “problems” and the “very high tax”.

“There was so much bureaucracy that I gave up,” he says.

Bolsonaro also said that “the things done in 2019 allowed that, even with the unforeseen event, Brazil ended 2020 with more employees than at the end of the previous year”.

“It is clear that the pandemic brought about a loss of income for many people, but it was in the matter of informality. That [o que foi feito em 2019] helped us to be one of the countries that suffered the least from the economy in 2020”, he says.

Bolsonaro referred, when citing “things done”, to the Provisional Measure of Economic Freedom, which was later approved by law, and the reduction of bureaucracy in Regulatory Norms (NRs).
