President Jair Bolsonaro said this Monday (11) that an agreement to buy diesel oil from Russia is “almost certain”, in yet another move to try to reduce the price of fuel in the country.
“Now an agreement to buy diesel from Russia is almost certain. Petrobras, some there, bought it much more expensively,” Bolsonaro said in a conversation with supporters as he left Palácio da Alvorada.
The president had already spoken of this possibility at the end of June, after a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russia has been under international sanctions since the invasion of Ukraine, especially from the United States and the European Union – the bloc used to be the main consumer of gas and oil in the country, but has cut off most purchases.
Unlike the Europeans and North Americans, and even with pressure from these countries, the Brazilian government continues to negotiate with the Russians. Bolsonaro has also agreed to guarantee the supply of fertilizers from Russia.
