President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said, this Friday afternoon (22), that the planned cut to the federal budget could reach R$8 billion.
“We don’t want to change anything, if I don’t cut it I’ll enter the fiscal responsibility law, that’s all, now it’s hard to work with a budget like this. This extra cut amounts to almost R$8 billion,” he said.
Asked about changes in the spending ceiling if he is reelected, Bolsonaro said he would not address the issue without first talking to the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes.
“I’m not going to talk about ceiling, floor, anything, without talking to Paulo Guedes. So I do with any minister”.
The blocking of resources that is expected to be announced by the government comes at a time when measures approved by Congress imposed new expenses on the budget, forcing the Ministry of Economy to review its spreadsheets.
In this way, the government’s objective is to comply with the spending ceiling rules. The information about the possible blocking was anticipated by the Policy analyst at CNN Renata Agostini.
If confirmed, this will be the third major block of resources promoted by the government. The first announcement was made in March, for R$ 1.7 billion. In June, came the second, of R$ 8.7 billion.
