Bolsonaro says new Petrobras president should change directors

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said this Wednesday (22) that a new Petrobras president appointed by the federal government should “change the directors” of the state-owned company to give a “new dynamic” to the company and change the price parity policy. import “if applicable”.

Bolsonaro also complained about the “difficulty” in getting the name of Caio Paes de Andrade approved to assume the presidency of the company. The statement was given in an interview with Itatiaia radio.

“What did we do recently? The Minister of Mines and Energy was changed, and Petrobras is under him. What is natural? It’s changing people there. Are we trying to switch? Yup. Now, the difficulty to exchange. The name passes through the analysis of the board of directors. And the board has been reluctant to accept all that there,” he said.

On Monday (20), after a new increase in fuel prices, the then president of Petrobras, José Mauro Coelho, resigned after pressure from the government. Fernando Borges, who was Executive Director of Exploration and Production, was chosen interim president of the company, which went against the interests of the Planalto.

Communications graduate Caio Paes de Andrade, whose name is being evaluated by the state-owned company’s Eligibility Committee, has had difficulties being nominated because he does not meet the criteria set out in the State-Owned Companies Law.

“What happened now last Monday? The president of Petrobras resigned. They put in an interim. The minister’s nominee is not him, he’s another citizen, and we’re having a hard time. It was supposed to be placed yesterday, it’s now, it’s going to be next week soon”, said the president.

According to him, the company’s pricing policy, which pegs the value of fuel to the dollar, “has already fulfilled its role” and may be revised.

“Petrobras’ statute created the PPI, international price parity, which in my opinion has already fulfilled its role. Same tourniquet. You do it there, when the bleeding ends, you have to loosen the leg otherwise gangrene. The leg called Petrobras is now gangrenous with PPI. There is no justification for ‘it went up outside, it goes up immediately here’. There is no such justification. Even more the greed of Petrobras. She is making unimaginable profits.”

Bolsonaro defended that the company’s statute, although it provides for parity, would allow not to readjust prices immediately, because, according to him, “the periodicity is one year” in the policy.

He also said that the government does not have full control over the state-owned company. “Petrobras is a company that is public and private. It’s both. So I don’t run there,” he said.
