Bolsonaro seeks to remind voters that he represents the “real right”

President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) this week resumed criticism of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and ministers of the Court, bringing to light the bellicose posture that marked a good part of his presidency.

For Bolsonaro’s allies, the movement meets an electoral need: it needs to show a portion of the population that it represents the “real right” — former minister Sergio Moro (Podemos) would be a “generic” right.

For this reason, in addition to targeting the STF, the president patted the allies of the people who are the target of lawsuits in court and criticized the demand for vaccination, in addition to slipping back into skepticism in relation to electronic voting machines.

An aide to the president says he has shown growing irritation at the advance of inquiries and the intimidation of allies, including members of the Palácio do Planalto. Therefore, he decided to express his displeasure.

The reading, however, that Moro can succeed in the discourse of representing, in fact, the right has gained traction among the political class. Congressional leaders debate this possibility in light of Bolsonaro’s embrace of the Centrão.

By joining the PL and consolidating his partnership with parties with a physiological background, he could end up being identified as the candidate of the Centrão, rather than the right-wing.

Bolsonaro’s new rhetorical outburst did not surprise either Supreme Court ministers or Centrão members. A STF minister reacted with irony, asking if people thought he would really change. A leader of the Centrão commented, according to a CNN, that rhetoric is Bolsonaro being Bolsonaro.

In the new episode of the Brasília timetable, Daniela Lima and Renata Agostini also reveal the latest movements in the electoral race. The duo comments on the launch of the candidacy of senator Simone Tebet (MDB), the “Picture of the Week”.

The podcast also describes the onslaught of former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) abroad and how he has encouraged allies to continue trying to convince former São Paulo governor Geraldo Alckmin to form an alliance.

Presented by Daniela and Renata, the Brasilia time is broadcast live and with video on the website of the CNN Brasil and on the channel of the channel on YouTube, on Fridays, from 12:30 pm. The episodes can then be accessed on demand on major podcast platforms: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Podcasts and Deezer.
